Ormocarpum sennoides Botanical Description
Straggling shrub, up to 3m tall. Leaves rarely in tufts; stipules ovate or lanceolate-acuminate with subulate tips, leaflets 6–17, oblong-elliptic, the larger ones over 10 mm. long and 8 mm. wide, sometimes up to 25mm. long and 11mm. Racemes viscid glandular-setose; Calyx glabrous or with a few large swollen-based hairs; receptacle-cup 3 mm, lateral lobes lanceolate, curved upwards, acute, 3.5–5 mm. long; lower lobe lanceolate, boat-shaped, very acute, 5–7 mm. long.; Corolla caducous; standard yellow, red veined, the claw 2 mm. long, blade ovate. with 2 thick more or less horizontal arched shelf-like callous protuberances at the base; wings pale yellow, faintly red veined, the claw 2–3.5 mm. long, blade obovate, auricled above at the base, 6–8 mm. long, keel greenish, faintly red veined, the claw 3–4 mm. long, blade 7–12 mm. long including a basal auricle 1 mm. long, 2 mm. wide at the base, 9–12 mm. near the apex which points upwards. Stamens (10), (5) + (5) or less often 1 + (9). Disc cylindrical, ± 1 mm. deep. Fruit is a pod, longitudinally striped, prickly, warted; seeds oblong. Branchlets and pods are warty. Leaves are alternate-spiral, imparipinnate. Fl. &Fr.: December-January.
