Ipomoea pes-tigridis Botanical Description

Densely hispid twiners. Leaves broadly orbicular, deeply 5-9-lobed; lobes obovate, apex acute to acuminate; petiole 3-7 cm long. Flowers subsessile in axillary, capitate clusters; peduncle c. 7 cm long. Bracts oblong, acute, villous. Calyx-lobes unequal, 8-12 mm long, ovate-acuminate, pubescent. Corolla white, 3-4 cm long, c. 4 cm across, funnel-form. Ovary c. 1 mm long, conical. Capsule 8-10 mm long, ovoid, brown. Seeds c. 4 mm long, pubescent, black.

Ipomoea pes-tigridis Medicinal uses

The mashed leaves are applied as a poultice on sores, boils, pimples, and tumours
 The leaf powder is smoked to get relief from bronchial spasm
 The entire plant is crushed and the juice extracted and take orally for treatment of or prevention of rabies if bitten by a rabid dog
 A decoction of the root is considered purgative and is also administered as a treatment for haemoptysis
