Chloris barbata Botanical Description

Annuals. Culms tufted, erect, 10-50 cm high; nodes glabrous. Leaves 5-18 x 0.3-0.5 cm, linear or linear-lanceolate, rounded at base, acuminate, flat; sheaths to 8 cm long, keeled; ligules truncate, membranous. Spikes 4-14, digitate, purplish, each 2-6 cm long. Spikelets subsessile, 2-seriate,2-3 mm long, obovate, 2-3-flowered. Lower glume 1-2 mm long, lanceolate, keeled. Upper glume c. 2 mm, lanceolate, hyaline, scabrid along the keel. Fertile lemmas 2-3 mm long, obovate, awned,densely stiff-cliate on margins and on keel; awn 4-6 mm long,scabrid. Paleas 2-2.5 x 1 mm, oblong-elliptic, hyaline; callus rounded, ciliate. Sterile lemmas 1-2 on a stalk, 0.5-1 mm long, obovate, truncate or emarginate, coriaceous, awned; awn 4-7 mm long. Stamens 3. Grains trigonous. Fl. &Fr.: March-December.

Chloris barbata Medicinal uses

The leaf paste is used externally for skin disorders leaves juice used in fever, diarrhea and diabetes.
 The entire plant is used to treat rheumatism in traditional medicine.
