Sida cordifolia Botanical Description
Subshrub. Stem with spreading hairs Stipules setaceous. Leaves ovate to orbicular, rounded or acute at apex, cordate, crenate-dentate, velvety-tomentose, 5 5 X 3.5 cm. Inflorescence usually axillary solitary, or terminal clusters. Flowers bisexual, pedicel pilose, jointed above middle, about 2-10 mm long, slightly accrescent, epicalyx absent, calyx 5 lobed, campanulate, slightly accrescent, lobes triangular, base connate, apex acuminate, glabrous inside, pubescent with stellate and patent simple hairs inside, about 1 x 2 mm across, corolla showy, yellow, pale yellow or with dark reddish near centre, base connate, obovate, margins ciliate, apex shallow emarginate. Staminal column, hairy or glabrous, anthers basifixed. Ovary conical, with stellate hairs, ovules 1 per locule, style 1 per carpel, stigma capitate. Fruit indehiscent schizocarp, oblate conic, enclosed by a persistent calyx, minutely pubescent, mericarps 8-12, reniform, dorsally reticulate, retrorse hairy, about 3-4 mm long, awns 2, about 3-4.5 mm long. Seed 1 in each mericarp, reniform, about 2 mm across, glabrous except minutely hairy near hilium, blackish brown. Fl. & Fr.: Throughout the year.
