Perotis indica Botanical Description
Annuals. Culms to 40 cm tall, slender, erect or geniculate, tufted. Leaves 1.5-3 x 0.3-0.8 cm, oblong or ovate-lanceolate, base rounded, margins wavy and scabrid, apex acute or acuminate; sheaths to 3.5 cm long; ligules membranous, truncate. Spike 8-17 cm long, purplish. Spikelets linear, awned, spiral on rachis, 1-flowered, purplish. Lower glume to 2.5 mm long, narrowly elliptic, scabrid without, awn to 1.5 cm long. Upper glume c. 2 mm long, linear-lanceolate, awn to 1 cm long. Lemmas c. 1 mm long, linear-lanceolate. Palea c. 0.5 mm long, linear. Stamens 3. Grains c. 2 mm long, linear. Fl. &Fr.: Throughout the year.
